Congratulations to BOTH The James-Lange Theory and Next Of Kin, who tied to win Semi-Finals Week 3 of ULTIMATE 2011: The RITZ Ybor's Quest for the ULTIMATE Opening Act.

The RITZ Ybor was a packed house last night with not one empty seat in the venue. The audience enthusiastically cheered on Stalling Dawn who did a rocking version of Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me," the Diamond Dolls who performed a dark, electro-synth version of "Piece of Me" and Curbside Goodbye who did a metal rendition of Brit's "Toxic." In the end, it was both The James-Lange Theory with their medley of "Toxic" and "Baby One More Time" and Next Of Kin with their bluesy, funk version of "Oops! I Did It Again" who stumped the judges with their hundreds of cheering fans, who in the end ultimately declared a tie and a victory for both bands.

The James-Lange Theory and Next Of Kin will advance to the August 19 ULTIMATE Finals where they join Week 1 winners The Reverie and Week 2 winners The Ken Apperson Band.

The Ken Apperson Band: Winners of ULTIMATE 2011 Week 2

Congratulations to The Ken Apperson Band, winners of Semi-Finals Week 2 of ULTIMATE 2011: The RITZ Ybor's Quest for the ULTIMATE Opening Act.


Khora came a close second with their rocking anthemic version of Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby." Camino ("I'll Be There/Fantasy" medley) and Traphik 3:16 ("Touch My Body) also battled out, while JANANI had to drop out last minute due to a family emergency. In the end, it was The Ken Apperson Band who ultimately won the night & the heart of The RITZ Ybor with their take on Mimi's "Fantasy."

The Ken Apperson Band will advance to the August 19 Finals where they join Week 1 winners The Reverie.

The Reverie: Winners of ULTIMATE 2011 Week 1

Congratulations to The Reverie, winners of Semi-Finals Week 1 of ULTIMATE 2011: The RITZ Ybor's Quest for the ULTIMATE Opening Act.


WD-HAN (a.k.a. We Don't Have A Name) came a close second with their judges-loving Queen medley that included Freddy Mercury classics 'We Will Rock You,' 'Under Pressure' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' From This Fire, Magnificent Applesauce and Parade The Tyrant gave everyone a run for their money with their rocking performances, but it was The Reverie who ultimately won the night & the heart of The RITZ Ybor with their take on Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls."

The Reverie will advance to the August 19 Finals with the next three week's winning bands and the Judge's Pick. Competing bands at the August 19 Finals will win a headlining & paid gig at the November 19 Square One event, the opportunity to open for a national touring act at The RITZ Ybor, studio recording time courtesy of Audio Atomic & $500.00 cash.

KANVAS Dance Showcase this Friday, 7/8


The Kanvas Showcasing the Best of Tampa’s Urban Arts:
Once again, VYB is bringing the area’s best hip hop crews and dance choreographers together on the main stage at The RITZ Ybor. This time, the showcase will include crews from all over Florida.

The stage is our canvas,” says DeMario Henry, VYB’s founder, “it’s where we leave our mark.” The Kanvas was created as a platform for young professionals to express themselves and for an audience to experience and embrace dance culture. What started as a small showcase in a studio setting has grown to an evening length event attracting talent from all over Florida.With so much response from local and regional choreographers and dance crews, VYB has decided to implement an invite only selection process. Below is the details to send your videos to become selected.

Selection Details:
Showcase Pieces are by invite only, please email at Feelthevyb@gmail.com in order to be considered for a spot.

All Dance Pieces must be no longer than 5min.

There will be an on-stage rehearsal the week of the show for you to do run through your piece with lighting, sound, and whatever else you feel you need to do an amazing show. Your allotted time will be 15min. max. Please respect this time constraint so that we can get everyone a chance to be onstage.

We are encouraging you to bring video cameras and cameras this year. Videotaping is allowed.

VYB is a young dance company, founded by Henry just over 2 years ago. It has since become known in the community for its cutting edge performances, workshops, and weekly classes. In recent reviews, VYB’s performances have been described as “absolutely flawless” with “stunning dynamics.” VYB strives to unify the community through its regular dance classes and talent showcases. In the past they have presented charity events benefiting Metropolitan Ministries and the American Heart Association, always with the goal of meeting the needs of the community.
