In The Loop Interview: yogArt

yogArt Tempts With Cultural Flavors
by Suzanne M. Schmidt

Pasco County's lack of artistic and cultural events bothers Adrienne Reed. To help remedy the situation, she decided to stretch her creative muscle.

The result is yogArt, a free community event that will feature fine arts, crafts, dance and yoga. The January 24 event takes place at Reed’s Namaste Yoga Studio, 23606 State Road 54 in Lutz, from noon to 7pm.

“It will be open to all ages,” said Jason Pierce Moriarty, managing director for Square One Creative, the company organizing yogArt. “We will have face painting and guided sketching class for the kids. For the adults, we will have a fashion show, artists and craft vendors, and a choreographed yoga movement piece. All day, there will be free yoga classes and free massages, as well. It should be a fun day for everyone.”

Artists from different backgrounds will show works, ranging from surrealistic pieces and photographs to crafts items like homemade jewelry. A percentage of the proceeds raised from art and craft sales will go to Chemo Angels, a charity that helps comfort people as they go through chemotherapy treatments.

Reed chose the charity because of all the work the organization has done on behalf of her friend Gilbert Rosadl, who has lymphatic cancer, she said.

“I wanted to do something in his honor,” Reed said. “I figured it is a win-win situation for everybody. It will be nice to be able to give something to the charity and also nice to have an art event in Pasco.”

Chemo Angels is a national nonprofit that works directly with patients.

“The charity is great because depending on the situation, they will help a person with transportation to treatments and bring them gifts or letters,” Reed said. “They do a lot to support the patient through the whole chemo treatment process.”

Throughout the yogArt event, the studio also will have free mini-yoga classes to introduce attendees to the practice. In addition, Reed and Moriarty will perform a new type of art that infuses yoga with modern dance. She also will perform with her two children Ben, 10, and Alexandra, 8.

“It is something totally different than anything out there,” Reed said. “It is a yoga dance routine set to music. It is unique and it should push the edge a little bit.”

Namaste also offers a free yoga class at the studio every weekend and has recently lowered her rates. For information, call (813) 505-1850 or visit For more information about Chemo Angels, visit

The fusion of fitness and art did not end with Jazzercising, as Square One Creative hosts an eclectic blend of music, art, fashion and yoga in yogArt this weekend.

This nontraditional exhibit will feature works from local musician Jamal Corrie, fashion designer Melissa Ora-ath and more than 30 local artists, as well as 15 craft venders and choreographed yoga movement pieces.

yogArt will also be interactive. Spectators will become participants in yoga lessons, massages, sketching classes, face painting and more, said Jason Moriarty, Square One Creative's state managing director.

"Square One tries to make our events appeal to all of the senses, so attendees can expect an event that will completely immerse them in the experience," Moriarty said.

Several movement pieces combining yoga, modern dance and visual art will be performed by Moriarty and Adrienne Reed, owner of Namaste Yoga Studio.

"I have been practicing yoga for several years and have come to view yoga as a form of art," Moriarty said.

Reed said she hopes that her studio will allow people unfamiliar with yoga to sample it in a fun environment, an attitude she's promoted in some of her earlier pieces.

"Moriarty and I did a yoga movement piece together in Square One's last show, Virgin 2.0, and had great success with it. We decided to see if we could go further with the art and yoga cohesion, and we also wanted to bring art, culture and fashion to Pasco County," Reed said.

Corrie will set the mood with easy listening music including songs from his latest album, Take My Hand. Corrie said his music is appealing to all people and will set the tone for a great event.

The event will benefit Chemo Angels, a cancer support organization for people undergoing chemotherapy.

The organization partners cancer patients with volunteers who send weekly cards, thoughtful notes and occasional small gifts to show their support.

All Square One Creative events benefit a different charity, but Chemo Angels holds a special significance to Moriarty.

A close friend of Moriarty and Adrienne has been battling cancer and is grateful to the organization for its assistance in his therapy.

"My best friend, Gilbert Rosado, is only 42 years old and has been coping with lymphatic cancer for a few years now.  I wanted to do something in his honor and asked him to choose a charity that was meaningful for him," Adrienne said.

yogArt will be held at the Namaste Yoga Studio in Lutz on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. The event is free and suitable for all ages, and will be catered by Chili's, Big Apple Bagels and Stonewood Tavern and Grille. For more information, visit

Marketing Day for yogArt Photos

Today was yogArt Marketing Day. New Tampa, Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Land O'Lakes, Odessa and Temple Terrace are now covered with yogArt Road Signs. Below are photos from today's fun:

Marketing Day for yogArt

yogArt is the first of its kind for Square One here in Florida:
  1. It is the VERY FIRST daytime Square One event.
  2. It is the VERY FIRST family-targeted Square One event.
  3. It is the VERY FIRST Square One event in the Pasco County.
After the massive success of our events in Tampa & Ybor, having our first event in a new city is basically like starting all over again. So Jason, Kat, Adrienne Reed and I have been on promotional overdrive to insure the success of the first Square One event in the uncharted waters of Pasco County.

For starters, this Sunday, January 11th, 2009 is (as Jason would like to call it) yogArt Marketing Day!

A group of 15 or so individuals will be flooding the Lutz, Land O' Lakes, Odessa, Wesley Chapel, New Tampa and Temple Terrace areas with the 5,000 yogArt postcards as well as 200 yogArt Road Signs. The local press in that area has already been contacted, and nearly all of them have expressed interest in attending the event or already covering it in their publication.

I have complete faith that, like GO! and Virgin 2.0 before it, yogArt will be another huge success! ...and to all of those first-time showing artists that are a constant and beloved presence at Square One shows... we are NOW in your shoes. For the reasons already stated above, yogArt is OUR very first show. (Consider it Virgin 2.1)

The first Square One Creative daytime family event called yogArt will take place on Saturday, January 24th, 2009 at Namaste Yoga Studio. Namaste Yoga Studio is located at 23606 State Road 54 in Lutz, Florida.

yogArt is a Square One Creative charity event created by Jason Pierce Moriarty, Managing Director of Square One Creative in Florida and Adrienne Reed, owner of Namaste Yoga Studio. The event, a benefit for the Chemo Angels charity, will feature live music by Jamal Corrie, a fashion show by Melissa Ora-ath, guided sketch classes for children by Kat Wilson, face painting by Face painting/Nikhila with Nicole Desiree Hayes and the works of over 30 local artists and 15 crafts vendors. Choreographed yoga movement pieces will be performed by Jason Pierce Moriarty and Adrienne Reed with her children Ben and Alex.

yogArt is open to the general public, all ages, and is free to attend. The event starts at noon and will last until 7pm. There will be complimentary appetizers provided by Chili's Grill & Bar, Big Apple Bagels, Stonewood Tavern & Grille and more. Complimentary massages will be provided by The Healing Sanctuary. Prize giveaways will include free yoga sessions at Namaste Yoga Studios, free portraits from Thompson Studios and much more. yogArt is being sponsored by Namaste Yoga Studio and Tampa
